The Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has announced that Persons Living With Disability (PLWD) intending to take the 2024/2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) can register without any charges. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar, shared this information during the launch of the registration process nationwide.
Emphasizing the board’s commitment to inclusivity, Oloyede revealed that the registration for the 2024 matriculation examination would kick off today. In a supportive move, JAMB pledged to provide free application documents to all categories of Persons Living With Disability.
“To support the PLWD, JAMB will issue free application documents to all categories of Persons Living with Disabilities in the advertisement for the 2024 UTME/DE,” Oloyede stated.
Additionally, the registrar outlined measures for a seamless experience, announcing that audio books would be made available for visually impaired candidates. Describing it as a digital adaptation of traditional reading materials, the audio books will be accessible in popular formats like MP3, WMV, and WMA, compatible with various audio-streaming devices.
Oloyede attributed the introduction of audiobooks to a suggestion made during the first National Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education in Nigeria.
The inclusivity initiative extends beyond visually impaired candidates to include those with Down syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). According to Oloyede, these categories will now be officially recognized under the disability group eligible for free registration.
In taking these steps, JAMB aims to create a more accessible and accommodating environment for a diverse range of candidates pursuing higher education opportunities.
