On Tuesday, law enforcement officers deployed tear gas against the 16 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Plateau State House of Assembly who were recently ousted by the Court of Appeal. The legislators, accompanied by their supporters, had gathered at the Rayfield Old Government House in Jos in anticipation of their return to plenary when the incident occurred.
The atmosphere grew tense as the sacked PDP lawmakers, determined to resume their legislative duties, faced resistance from armed policemen and other security personnel who had taken control of the Government House premises. Despite being prevented from entering the House of Assembly chambers, the lawmakers remained steadfast, refusing to vacate the premises.
