A fierce clash between two rival bandit groups in the Hayin Alhaji to Munhaye forest of the Tsafe Local Government Area in Zamfara State has reportedly resulted in the deaths of numerous bandits, according to local sources. Mohammed Sanda, a resident, informed The PUNCH on Sunday that the confrontation occurred last Saturday, where bandits from Katsina State attempted to kidnap residents in Zamfara.
Notably, the notorious bandit kingpin, Ado Alero, who hails from the area, intervened to prevent the rival group from abducting villagers. The ensuing gun battle between the two factions led to casualties on both sides, with several bandits losing their lives. Sanda revealed that the local population was heading to the battleground to witness the aftermath, noting the presence of over 20 abandoned motorcycles at the scene.
Sanda recounted the events, stating, “Some bandits who came from Katsina State invaded some communities between Tafkin Kazai and Munhaye village around five o’clock pm last Saturday evening, trying to abduct the residents of the area. While they were in the area, another group of bandits led by Ado Alero came to the place in a bid to protect the residents.”
The confrontation unfolded over several hours, causing residents to flee for safety. Ado Alero reportedly reassured them and instructed them to stay put. Sanda disclosed that upon returning to the area on Sunday morning, numerous corpses and abandoned motorcycles were discovered.
Concerned about the absence of security personnel, the communities are contemplating a mass burial for the deceased bandits. The incident highlights the complex dynamics and conflicts within the banditry situation in the region.
