Silma, who appeared frail, had been accused of witchcraft, a charge that was never substantiated by the complainant. Following her release, the Chief Judge provided her with N12,000 to aid her journey back to Cameroon, where she resides.
The Jail Delivery Committee, led by the Chief Judge, reviewed cases at the 800-capacity correctional facility, which currently houses 886 inmates. During the exercise, 32 inmates were discharged, 25 granted bail, and 37 convicted out of the 182 awaiting trial cases presented.
While some of those released were required to complete community service, 13 cases were reviewed and their sentences reduced. The Chief Judge advised the released inmates to see their freedom as a second chance and urged them to lead better lives. Dominic David, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, pledged their commitment to turning a new leaf and expressed gratitude to the Chief Judge and her team for their efforts.
