The Kogi State Government has disclosed its intention to announce a designate to assume the vacant stool of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland in the coming week. Governor Bello shared this information during a meeting with all seven aspirants to the throne who were recommended by the Kingmakers committee. The committee was constituted and inaugurated to receive and scrutinize applications from eligible sons of Ebiraland for the vacant stool.
The seven aspirants recommended by the committee include Dr. Philip Salawu, the former Deputy Governor of the state; Barrister Ataba Sani Omolori, former Clerk of the National Assembly; Gen. Yusuf Abubakar Amuda; Barr Momoh Shaibu; Prof. Ibrahim Onuwe Abdulmalik; HRH Dr. Ahmad Tijani Anaje; and Mr. Ahmed Momohjimoh.
Governor Bello, during the committee’s inauguration, urged the aspirants to support whoever would be appointed by the government, emphasizing their qualifications. He cautioned against divisive statements or actions that could disrupt the peace of the land.
The Kingmakers committee, inaugurated by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barr Salami Ozigi Deedat, was tasked with scrutinizing applications and submitting recommendations by December 15, 2023. The vacancy in the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland arose with the passing of the late Ohinoyi, Alhaji Dr. Abdulrahman Ado Ibrahim, on October 29, 2023. The late monarch, who served as the 4th Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, was known for his commitment to harmonious and peaceful coexistence among his people.
