Osun State government yesterday reiterated its efforts in reviving the Adire industry through a government initiative aimed at promoting the fabric as a source of economic growth and cultural heritage.
Secretary to the State Government, Bobagunwa Teslim Igbalaye who represented Governor Ademola Adeleke made this known at a world press conference organized to herald the Adire Osun Festival 2025 slated for December.
The annual event according to the Osun SSG is aimed at promoting cultural and economic values of the State while the festival will showcase the unique Adire textile, a symbol of Osun history and creativity.
“Adire Osun Festival 2025 will feature street shows of various Colourful Adire Fabrics, with a view to promoting Osun’s rich culture and traditions as well as reclaim Osun and Osogbo historical place as the source of Aro and Adire.
“We are excited to transform Osun State into an entertainment hub of creativity and culture”.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman, Council for Arts and Culture, Hon Ebenezer Adeniji, said the Adire of Osun is more than cloth. It is an instrument of identity, a potential engine of jobs, and a promise to the next generation that their heritage will be a foundation for their future.
Adeniji added that, Adire Osun Festival, 2025 with the themed; “Creating wealth, Empowering Youths” will recognize a living archive, a powerful engine of identity, creativity, and economic hope.
“Adire Osun speaks; it tells of who we were, who we are, and, with careful stewardship, who we can become”, the Chairman added.
