The Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives, expressed confidence that Nigeria is becoming more secure, making it an attractive destination for foreign investments and the exploration of its rich cultural heritage.
The Speaker conveyed this sentiment during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Anhui Provincial People’s Congress Standing Committee in China, led by Vice Chairman Mr. Tao Ming Lun. The meeting took place in the Speaker’s office at the National Assembly on Tuesday.
Deputy Speaker Hon. Benjamin Kalu, who received the delegation on behalf of the Speaker, acknowledged the mutually beneficial diplomatic ties between China and Nigeria. He emphasized the Parliament’s recognition of the importance of fostering diplomatic relations to contribute to the progress of both nations and promote global peace and prosperity.
In a statement by his Special Assistant on Press Affairs, Udora Orizu, Hon. Kalu conveyed warm compliments from the Speaker and members of the House of Representatives to the visiting delegation. He expressed enthusiasm about engaging in constructive dialogue to identify areas of common interest, such as trade, investment, education, and cultural exchange.
Hon. Kalu highlighted the historical and cultural connections between Nigeria and China, emphasizing the opportunity for both countries to enhance their understanding of each other’s traditions and values.
During the visit, he extended an invitation for reciprocal visits, promising that Nigerian representatives would visit China and encouraging the Chinese delegation to explore Nigeria’s tourism offerings. Hon. Kalu assured them of the improved safety in Nigeria, inviting them to freely explore the country’s rich heritage.
Addressing the need for collaboration, Hon. Kalu sought China’s partnership in agricultural technology to enhance agriculture and address food insecurity. He emphasized the importance of agriculture in the current administration’s agenda for food security, aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s renewed Hope agenda.
In response, Mr. Tao Ming Lun, the leader of the Chinese delegation, expressed their intent to deepen cooperation, bring the two countries closer, and expand their collaboration.
