In an official press release by the Katsina State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, it was announced that both awaiting trial inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Katsina on October 17, 2023, have been successfully recaptured.
The escape prompted the immediate constitution of a search party, working in collaboration with sister security agencies. The coordinated efforts resulted in the swift arrest of one of the fugitives, Ibrahim Muhammad Lawal, also known as Abba Kala.
To recapture the second escapee, Musa Isah, the Nigerian Correctional Service deployed its e-tracking mechanism and employed overt and covert intelligence gathering. This strategic approach led to the successful recapture of Musa Isah on December 19, 2023, in Kaduna metropolis.
In the press release, ASC Najibullah Idris, the Public Relations Officer of the Katsina State Command, assured the general public that there is no cause for alarm as both escapees are now back in custody.
The Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, conveyed his appreciation for the efforts of the search team. He further assured the public of the continuous commitment of the Nigerian Correctional Service to secure all Custodial Centres, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the safety and integrity of the correctional facilities.
