In a fortunate escape, an unidentified man narrowly avoided a fatal accident when his Toyota Camry plunged off the bridge at Anthony-Oke on Sunday. A video posted on the official X handle of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) revealed the extent of the car’s damage, including a partially destroyed pan house caused by the fall.
According to Adebayo Taofiq, the Public Relations Officer for LASTMA, the driver of the Toyota Camry (with the registration number SMK-43MO) was engaged in reckless driving, leading to the vehicle falling off the bridge and landing in a ditch while heading from Anthony-Oke towards Oshodi.
Taofiq explained, “He was competing with other vehicles on the road and swapped the steering from the other side and, as a result, he fell off from the bridge and landed inside a ditch.” Fortunately, the driver suffered only minor injuries, and the car was promptly evacuated from the road to prevent traffic congestion.
After the incident, the driver contacted friends who arranged for a towing vehicle to remove the car. Despite the fortunate outcome, the driver sustained minor injuries. The police from Anthony visited the scene, and LASTMA officials assisted in clearing the vehicles to avoid disruptions to traffic flow. The incident serves as a reminder for motorists to exercise caution and avoid reckless driving to prevent accidents on the road.
