The Enugu State Police Command has reported the apprehension of eight individuals in connection with the tragic killing of Igwe Ezugwu Patrick, the traditional ruler of Adani Autonomous Community in Uzo Uwani council area.
Igwe Patrick was reportedly murdered in his village, Akutara, on Sunday. The Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, and his team visited the community on Monday to assess the situation and announced the arrest of eight suspects linked to the killing.
Addressing the community, Uzuegbu assured that both the instigators and perpetrators of the crime would be identified and brought to justice. He stated, “The governor of Enugu State said I should relocate to this local government and ensure that all those responsible for this unfortunate act are apprehended in line with the state’s zero tolerance for crime.”
Expressing the gravity of the situation, he added, “I want to let you know that the governor is not happy that a breach of this nature could occur, so he asked me to come here to ensure that all the criminals are fished out. I can assure you that these criminals will never go unpunished.”
The President-General of the community, Chief S.N Utazi, expressed appreciation for the swift response from the state government following the tragic incident. He emphasized that the community had been at peace in the recent past, and such a heinous crime was unexpected.
Dr. Obinna Ayogu, the community’s traditional prime minister, expressed shock over the monarch’s murder and commended the governor and security agencies for their prompt actions in reassuring the safety of the community. He urged the police to continue the manhunt for the remaining suspects involved in the crime.
