The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has apprehended 23 suspects for their alleged involvement in armed robbery, “one-chance” syndicates, and rape during the month of December. The Commissioner of Police, Haruna Garba, disclosed this while parading the suspects in Abuja on Friday.
Providing details, Garba stated, “From the first of December till date, the command arrested a total of nine ‘one-chance’ suspects, 12 armed robbery suspects, recovered five stolen vehicles, five firearms, and 12 ammunitions.”
He further explained the law enforcement actions taken, mentioning that on December 25, a report was received about a robbery incident involving five hoodlums who waylaid and robbed individuals returning from an event, resulting in the prompt arrest of suspects and recovery of stolen items.
Garba also highlighted a disturbing case of armed intrusion, stating, “On December 25, at about 2 am, five armed hoodlums gained access into an apartment behind a church at Lugbe extension along the airport road occupied by two ladies (names withheld). The hoodlums gang-raped the two ladies and robbed them of their mobile phones and other valuables.”
Continuing the investigation, the police identified and arrested one suspect, John Moses, who was found in possession of one of the stolen phones. Subsequent interrogations led to the arrest of four additional suspects, all of whom confessed to the crime.
The Commissioner assured that the suspects would face legal consequences as the investigation progresses, and they would be arraigned in court. The law enforcement efforts in December also resulted in the recovery of stolen vehicles, firearms, and ammunitions, contributing to the overall commitment to maintaining public safety in the Federal Capital Territory.
