An accident on the Jebba-Ilorin Expressway in the early hours of Tuesday reportedly claimed the lives of at least 11 people, with seven others seriously injured. The fatal accident involved two vehicles: a DAF truck and an 18-passenger Toyota Hiace bus. The incident occurred at Aiyere village along the Bode-Saadu-Ilorin route at around 4:50 am.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) attributed the crash to wrongful overtaking and speed violation by one of the vehicles. The FRSC, along with the Nigeria Police Force, conducted rescue operations at the scene. The Toyota Hiace bus, traveling from Gombe en route Lagos, was said to have wrongfully overtaken another vehicle, resulting in a head-on collision with an oncoming DAF truck.
The Public Relations Officer of the FRSC, Kwara Sector Command, Basambo Olayinka, provided the information, stating that preliminary investigations indicated the circumstances leading to the collision. The incident highlights the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and exercising caution on the roads to prevent accidents and loss of lives.
