On Wednesday, Multichoice, the parent company of DStv, announced that it would not be broadcasting the upcoming African Cup of Nations tournament on its platform. The satellite service stated that it failed to secure the broadcasting rights for the continent’s premier football event on its SuperSport channels.
In a statement released, Multichoice clarified, “SuperSport Channel will not broadcast the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 scheduled for January 13th – February 11th, 2024, because the channel has not secured the rights to broadcast the tournament.” However, they assured viewers that AFCON 2023 games would be available through partner broadcast stations on Free-to-Air (FTA) channels.
