The Kano State Hisbah Board, a Sharia police force, has successfully apprehended a truck carrying an extensive load of over 24,000 bottles of assorted alcoholic beverages. The Director-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Abba Sufi, revealed this development on January 3 during an inspection of the confiscated vehicle at the board’s headquarters.
According to a statement by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Lawan Ibrahim-Fagge, the seizure took place along Zaria Road in Kano. The truck driver, along with two additional suspects, was detained in connection with the illicit transportation of the alcoholic drinks.
Sufi, commending the proactive efforts of the Hisbah personnel, emphasized their commitment to enforcing a zero-tolerance policy against the smuggling of beer and other intoxicating substances into the state. This action aligns with the state’s adherence to Sharia law.
The Acting Assistant Commander General of the Intelligent Crimes Dispatch Unit within the board, Fu’ad Dorayi, encouraged citizens to report any vehicles carrying suspected products along specific routes, including Kano/Zaria Road, Kano-Gwarzo-Dayi Road, Kano-Katsina Road, Kano-Maiduguri Road, and Kano-Hadejia Road. Dorayi expressed gratitude for the collaborative support received from the Dawakin Kudu Hisbah Command and other concerned citizens in the ongoing crusade against beer smuggling into the state.
