Residents and pedestrians along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway have expressed concern about the persistent issue of open defecation on the reconstructed drainage system. Miscreants have been defacing the road median with feces, causing pedestrians who cross the expressway to endure unpleasant odors.
The situation has become particularly prevalent on the median from Berger in Lagos State inward Kara, Warewa, and Mowe in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. Residents and pedestrians are alarmed by the health risks posed by the strong smells emanating from these areas.
One resident, Tunde Adewale, emphasized the need for urgent government intervention to address the issue. He highlighted the risk of diseases such as cholera and dysentery and called for immediate action to prevent further health hazards.
While concerns were raised about the number of public toilets along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway corridor, the report mentions the presence of two different public toilets at the OPIC and Arepo ends of the highway. Despite the availability of these facilities, some individuals continue to engage in open defecation, prompting attendants to take measures to discourage such behavior.
Efforts to educate and discourage open defecation, as well as addressing the root causes, are essential to ensure public health and hygiene in the area.
