The Igbimo Agba Yoruba in Ile Ibarapa has sent an urgent petition to the Governor of Kwara State, Governor Abdul Rahman Abdul-Rasaq, the Kwara State House of Assembly, and the Head of the State Security Service (DSS) regarding a potential clash between Yorubas and Ibaribas in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State. The petition alleges that the Ibaribas are preventing Yoruba traders from engaging in their normal business activities due to allegations that a Yoruba individual named Nafiu made a hate speech against them.
The petition accuses four traditional rulers in the area of banning Yoruba traders and expelling Nafiu from the council. The Yoruba representatives fear that the next stage of the action may involve forcefully evicting Yorubas from their farms and homes. They call on Governor Abdul Rahman Abdul-Rasaq to use his office to save the lives of Yorubas in the affected communities and express concerns about the violation of fundamental human rights.
The petition requests the governor’s intervention to address the situation and ensure the protection of Yoruba residents in Baruten Local Government Area.End
