Bandits reportedly attacked Kuka Babangida village in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing at least nine residents, including the village head, Idris Haruna. The assailants allegedly went from house to house in search of valuables, including money. The chairman of the local government council, Bashir Sabiu, and the spokesman for the Katsina police command, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed the incident.
The state Commissioner for Internal Security, Nasiru Muazu, emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property, pledging ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of the people.
In response to the recurrent banditry in the North-Western states, former Secretary to the Katsina State Government, Alhaji Inuwa Mustapha, called on the governors of the region to jointly tackle the issue. Mustapha urged the governors to collaborate in pressuring the federal government for assistance in addressing banditry and other crimes. He emphasized the need for well-coordinated and simultaneous operations against the bandits, involving air and ground troops, as well as local guides and hunters familiar with the terrains.
The former SSG highlighted the challenges faced when individual states implement measures against bandits, leading the criminals to move to other states. He stressed the importance of collective action and support from the federal government to effectively address the security challenges in the region.
