Governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) have called on Nigerians to await the findings of the ongoing anti-graft investigation and refrain from passing judgment on the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu. The directive for the investigation came from President Bola Tinubu, who tasked the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, to examine all financial transactions involving the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
Betta Edu, who was in charge of the ministry, faced criticism following the leakage of a memo on December 20, 2023, revealing her instruction to transfer N585 million to a private account owned by Oniyelu Bridget, purportedly serving as the Project Accountant for Grants for Vulnerable Groups. President Tinubu suspended Edu in response to these allegations.
The Chairman of the Progressives Governor’s Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, addressed the issue in Abuja, asserting the unity of APC governors. Uzodinma emphasized the governors’ commitment to supporting Tinubu’s administration in realizing the renewed hope agenda.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Uzodinma remarked, “The Progressive Governors’ Forum is united in supporting the APC administration ably led by our President Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu GCFR. We will continue to support him, we will take his policies to the grassroots.” Regarding Betta Edu, he cautioned against hasty judgments, stating, “The only perfect being we have observed and noticed is the Almighty God. The functions of government include encouraging good things and good appointees and discouraging bad things and bad appointees.”
Uzodinma highlighted that the allegation against Edu is currently under investigation, and the government will make a decision based on the findings. He urged patience and emphasized the importance of allowing the investigative process to unfold before drawing conclusions.
