The Nigerian Army announced the successful destruction of insurgent strongholds in the North East, North West, and parts of Niger state. Major General Kevin Obhiozele Aligbe, the Commander Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army (TRADOC) in Niger state, made the disclosure during an event commemorating the 2023 West African Social Activities (WASA) at the 31 parade ground in Minna.
Aligbe revealed that efforts were made to dislodge insurgents in Niger state, emphasizing the steady and effective progress in the country’s fight against insurgency. He highlighted the recognition of these achievements by the Federal government, well-meaning Nigerians, and the international community.
Despite these advancements, Aligbe acknowledged lingering security threats in Niger state, with terrorists spreading to some areas and committing heinous acts. Operations against ISIS in the state, involving TRADOC, 31 artillery brigade, Nigerian Air Force, Defence Headquarters Special Operations Force (DHQ SOF), and 18 Brigade, have yielded significant results.
Aligbe called for increased security vigilance among military personnel, their families, and the general public to thwart any nefarious plans by miscreants. He expressed gratitude to Chief of Army Staff, Lieut. -Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, for continuous material and financial support to the cantonment.
Major General Jamiu Jimoh, the Chief of Doctrine and Combat Development, commended the troops for their outstanding performance as special guests of honor at the event. He pledged continuous support in the fight against insurgency. Brigadier General Hamidu Bobbo, Commander, 313 Artillery Brigade, Minna, attributed the success to consistent personnel training and expressed appreciation for the continuous support from the Chief of Army Staff.
The event’s highlights included cultural performances by various ethnic groups showcasing the country’s cultural heritage.
