The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has reassured FCT residents not to panic, emphasizing that he and security agencies are actively addressing the security challenges in the region. Wike held an emergency closed-door meeting on Tuesday with security agency heads and Area Council Chairmen in response to public concern following recent kidnappings and fatalities.
The incidents include the kidnapping of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar and 22 others in Bwari, as well as the abduction of 13-year-old Folasade Ariyo, along with her siblings and mother in Dutse-Alhaji Area. After the killing of Folashade Ariyo and two others, the kidnappers raised their ransom demand from N60m to N700m for the remaining victims, prompting her father, Mr. Oladosu Ariyo, to seek assistance from the Nigerian Bar Association.
Before the closed-door meeting, Wike addressed the press, stating that he, along with Area Council Chairmen, would collaboratively find solutions to the security challenges in the FCT. He emphasized their collective responsibility to ensure the safety of Abuja, assuring residents that every effort was being made to address the security issues.
Wike also expressed concern about reports of Area Council Chairmen neglecting their responsibilities by traveling during security challenges. He warned against such actions, highlighting the need for collective efforts to resolve the security problems and calling on the chairmen to actively participate in finding solutions.
