Mr. Oladosu Ariyo, a lawyer, confirmed the tragic death of his 13-year-old daughter, Folashade, who was killed by kidnappers in Sagwari community, Abuja. The kidnappers, dressed as military personnel, invaded the community and abducted 11 residents, including a mother and her four children. The kidnappers had demanded a N60 million ransom for each victim, and despite raising several million Naira through donations, they refused to collect it. Unfortunately, they killed Folashade and three others, dumping their bodies in Kaduna State.
Ariyo, in a message shared on social media, urgently appealed for the intervention of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) and questioned the government’s commitment to addressing the insecurity in the country. He revealed that his wife and three remaining children were still in captivity, with the kidnappers now demanding an increased ransom of N100 million for each victim.
In the midst of the tragedy, Ezekiel Dalhatu, the Commissioner of the FCT Public Complaints Commission, called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the FCT due to the escalating insecurity, kidnappings, and attacks on residents. He urged the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to suspend ongoing projects and address the security issue. Dalhatu also proposed the establishment of a civilian joint task force to combat insecurity in rural areas.
The FCT Police Command declined to comment on the issue, citing security reasons. Efforts to reach the Director of Security in the FCT Administration, Adamu Gwary, were unsuccessful. The tragic incident highlights the urgent need for comprehensive and effective measures to address the prevailing security challenges in Nigeria.
