Governor Bala Mohammad of Bauchi State has commended the officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces for their sacrifices and unwavering commitment to maintaining unity and addressing insecurity across the country. The commendation took place at the Armed Forces Remembrance Day lunch held at the Officers’ Mess, 33 Artillery in Bauchi.
During the event, Governor Bala, represented by his Deputy, Hon. Mohammed Auwal Jatau, acknowledged the military’s success in keeping the nation united despite various security challenges since independence. He particularly highlighted the Nigerian Army’s significant efforts in curtailing insurgency in the North-East and putting pressure on bandits in the North-West, serving as a unifying force for the nation.
The governor expressed gratitude to the military and other security agencies for their dedication, emphasizing that the Legionnaires being celebrated had served the nation during various wars, including World Wars and the Nigerian Civil War.
Governor Bala assured the Legionnaires of the state government’s commitment to their well-being, stating that efforts were being made to provide gainful employment to them and support their families. He acknowledged the families of the fallen heroes, emphasizing the need for collective support, care, and compassion.
Major General Mohammed Ahmed, the Commander of the Nigerian Army Armored Corps Bauchi, appealed to the state government and individuals not to relent in supporting the widows, orphans, and legions of fallen heroes. He emphasized the importance of providing services such as medical care, education sponsorship, and empowerment.
Brigadier General Emmanuel Egbe, the Commandant of 33 Artillery Brigade Bauchi, expressed gratitude to the State Government for its continuous support to the military. He explained that the Army Remembrance Day, celebrated every January 15, serves as a time for sober reflection on the need to build an equitable society free from crisis.
