Police in Bauchi State have apprehended Mike Habila, a 400-level student at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, for alleged possession of firearms. According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Ahmed Wakil, the arrest was made on January 13, 2024, following credible intelligence from a vigilante group.
Habila reportedly confessed during interrogation that the seized weapons, including a locally-made gun, a locally-made pistol, and 9mm live ammunition, belonged to Samson Irimiya. Irimiya had previously been arrested for possessing a locally-made pistol on May 24, 2021, and is currently in detention undergoing investigation.
A search warrant was executed as part of the ongoing investigation into related firearm cases in Bauchi. This incident comes on the heels of the arrest, just a month prior, of a 300-level student, Atim Emmanuel, found in possession of a revolver pistol and a cartridge while leaving the university campus.
In a separate case reported at the Area Command, one Abdulrahman Auwal filed a complaint involving criminal breach of trust, forgery, criminal misappropriation, and obtaining money under false pretense. The victims entrusted Timothy Oseni of Yelwa Anguwan Kusu Bauchi with a total of N663,000 for school fees registration at his business center within the university compound.
Responding to the complaint, detectives arrested the culprits, and preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had fraudulently collected the money for registration, later presenting forged registration slips to the victims. The suspect confessed to forging numerous registration slips for students of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi. The police are actively pursuing the case to ensure justice is served.
