Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke have successfully rescued nine kidnap victims in Owukpa forest, located in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State. The victims had reportedly been abducted from a commercial vehicle along the Otukpa/Enugu Highway on January 11, 2024.
The Force Commander, Major General Sunday Igbinowanhia, shared the news with journalists in Makurdi on Thursday. The operation, conducted in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and the Benue State Community Volunteer Guard, was based on credible intelligence that led them to the hideout of the suspected kidnappers in Owukpa Forest.
General Igbinowanhia revealed, “Nine passengers, comprising of eight females and one male passenger, were rescued from the suspected kidnappers.” He expressed appreciation to the local community for providing valuable information that led to the discovery of the kidnappers’ hideout and the subsequent successful rescue operation.
The Force Commander encouraged residents in Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba states to continue using the emergency numbers provided by Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) to provide credible information, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the military and the local community in maintaining security and combating criminal activities.
