On Wednesday, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command successfully prevented a yet-to-be-identified man from committing suicide in the LASU-Iyana-Iba area. The RRS, in a Facebook post, shared images from the scene, revealing that the man had attempted to throw himself in front of a moving vehicle. The RRS team, engaged in routine patrol, and passers-by intervened, preventing the dire act.
Upon investigation, the man’s family was identified, and he was handed over to them for necessary monitoring and care. The RRS emphasized the collaborative effort with concerned citizens in averting the suicide attempt.
The statement from the RRS read, “Around 11:25 a.m. today (Wednesday), our operatives in Igando rescued a man trying to commit suicide by jumping in front of speeding vehicles on LASU – Iyana Iba Expressway. With the assistance of passers-by, he was restrained. His family was contacted and he has been handed over to them for maximum attention.”
In addition to this rescue operation, the RRS also addressed a separate incident in Bamgbose, Lagos Island, where violence erupted between two groups over the death of a young man. The RRS made several arrests, and the situation was de-escalated, restoring normalcy to the area. Joint teams of police operatives from divisions, Area Command, and RRS continued to monitor the situation.
The report concluded by referencing a recent case on January 12, where Nigerians mourned the death of a 32-year-old female bank worker, Amarachi Ugochukwu, in Ikorodu, Lagos State. She had taken her own life by consuming an insecticide within the premises of a new generation bank. The tragic incident occurred in the restroom around 1 pm, unbeknownst to her colleagues.
