The Adamawa State Police Command has made significant strides in the investigation of a gruesome murder that took place in a hotel in Yola, the state capital. On Thursday evening, a young lady was beheaded, allegedly in a ritualistic killing, prompting swift action by law enforcement.
Several suspects, including three hotel staff members who were on duty at the time of the incident, have been apprehended. The arrest of the hotel staff is a crucial step in the ongoing investigations into the suspected ritual murder.
The horrific incident unfolded on January 18, 2024, around 9:30 p.m., when a suspected ritualist brought his victim to the hotel as a guest. Tragically, the young lady was beheaded, and the assailant fled the scene with her decapitated head.
SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the spokesman for the Adamawa State Police Command, confirmed the arrests to journalists on Friday. He stated, “The command has so far apprehended three staff of the hotel and recovered drug and handset of the lady. The drug and handset were recovered at the scene of the crime.”
The victim has been identified as Bilkisu Alhaji Idi, a married woman who recently separated from her husband. Her ex-husband, Auwal Garba, positively identified her remains deposited at the Specialist Hospital. According to Garba, they were married for about six years, and they had a child together. However, due to irreconcilable differences, they divorced in December 2023.
On the day of the tragic incident, Bilkisu had reached out to her ex-husband, expressing a desire to talk to their child. Unfortunately, the child was with the grandmother at that time. The police assured the public of the Police Commissioner’s, CP Afolabi Babatola, determination to apprehend the perpetrator of this heinous crime.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, and the swift response of the Adamawa State Police Command signifies a commitment to justice and ensuring the safety of the public. The investigation continues, and efforts are underway to bring the assailant to justice.
