Femi Adesina, the former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has dismissed the rumors about Buhari being a clone named “Jubril of Sudan” as ridiculous. Adesina made this revelation in his book titled ‘Working with Buhari: Reflections of a Special Adviser, Media and Publicity (2015 – 2023)’, which was presented in Abuja last Tuesday.
The former presidential aide recounted an incident upon Buhari’s return from a foreign medical trip on August 19, 2021, when rumors began circulating that the president was not the real Buhari but a clone. Adesina recalled attending an event in traditional Yoruba attire and being complimented by Buhari on his dressing, questioning how a supposed clone named Jubril would know his name and comment on his attire.
Adesina emphasized the absurdity of the clone theory and highlighted Buhari’s warm reception from the public on his return, stating that the crowd’s uncontrollable joy demonstrated the people’s love for the president.
The book also revealed Buhari’s decision not to sack the embattled governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, amid speculations about his presidential ambition in the 2023 general election. Additionally, Buhari expressed a preference for extraditing Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to face trial in Nigeria rather than resorting to eliminating him.
Adesina’s book provides insights into various aspects of Buhari’s presidency, shedding light on both political and personal dimensions of the former president.
