The Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 24 suspected internet fraudsters undergoing training for cybercrimes in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The arrests were made on Monday at a building believed to be a hideout and training center for individuals engaged in internet-related crimes.
The all-male suspects were captured in two locations during an intelligence-driven sting operation at D-Line Ewet Housing Estate and Nelson Mandela area in Uyo. The upper floor of the building where they were arrested resembled a classroom, equipped with chairs, tables, laptops, and notepads, suggesting it was used exclusively for training youths in various aspects of cybercriminal activities.
Recovered items from the premises and the suspects included five exotic cars, 18 laptops, 17 mobile phones, and one internet router. This incident follows a similar operation by the EFCC on November 28, 2019, where 23 trainers and trainees were arrested at a “Yahoo Academy” in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
