The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has given the green light to all 10 aspirants who were screened for the Edo State party’s governorship primaries scheduled for February 22. The party’s National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, confirmed that the 10 aspirants had been cleared after the screening process conducted by the Screening Committee, led by the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed September 21, 2024, for the Edo State governorship election. The PDP sold its Nomination Form for N30 million, with the Expression of Interest Form costing N5 million. The sale of forms commenced on January 17, 2024, and concluded on Thursday.
Governor Mutfwang assured the aspirants of the party’s commitment to fairness and emphasized the PDP’s determination to emerge victorious in the upcoming governorship poll. Among the aspirants cleared for the primaries are Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shuaibu; former Chairman of Sterling Bank, Asue Ighodalo; and Blessing Igbinedion, daughter of Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin Kingdom. Other cleared aspirants include Anselm Usiose Ojezua, Felix Akhabue, Martin Uhomoibhi, Umoru Hadizat, Osaro Osaze Onaiwu, Arthur Esene, and Omoregie Ihama.
