Gunmen reportedly abducted six pupils and three teachers of a private school along with their bus driver while returning from Eporo-Ekiti on Monday night. The victims were students of Apostolic Faith School, Ekiti, according to Ekititrends’ post on its X account.
In response to the incident, the Ekiti State Government assured residents that security measures had been heightened to rescue the abducted individuals. Governor Biodun Oyebanji described the kidnapping as callous and unacceptable, emphasizing that every effort would be made to secure the safe return of the children and teachers.
The Ekiti government stated that security agencies were actively pursuing the abductors, and the governor urged citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperate with security forces. Oyebanji pledged a swift and comprehensive rescue operation.
As of the latest report, law enforcement agencies, including the police and other security forces, have been mobilized to address the situation promptly.
This incident follows the killing of two Ekiti State monarchs on the Ipao-Oke Ako Road by suspected kidnappers on the same day. The Onimojo of Imojo, Oba Olatunde Olusola, and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba Babatunde Ogunsakin, were killed, while the Alara of Ara Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, managed to escape. The traditional rulers were returning from a function in Kogi State when they encountered the armed kidnappers. The authorities are actively investigating the situation.
