A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a warrant for the arrest of the Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Governor, Edison Ehie, over his alleged involvement in the burning of the state House of Assembly. The court also ordered the arrest of Jinjiri Bala, Happy Benedict, Progress Joseph, Adokiye Oyagiri, and Chibuike Peter (also known as Rambo) for their alleged participation in criminal activities related to the incident.
The explosion occurred at the Rivers State House of Assembly complex on October 30, 2023, amid reported moves by some lawmakers to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Loyalists of the governor were suspected to be behind the incident. Last Thursday, Chime Ezebalike, Lukman Oladele, Kenneth Goodluck Kpasa, Osiga Donald, and Ochueja Thankgod were remanded by another Federal High Court in Abuja on similar charges related to the burning of the assembly.
In an ex-parte application brought by the Inspector General of Police, Edison Ehie and others were named as defendants. The defendants were accused of conspiracy, arson, terrorism, attempted murder, and the murder of a Superintendent of Police, Bako Agbashim, and five other police informants. The court granted the ex-parte application and issued a warrant for the arrest of the defendants.
