Addressing the crucial issues impacting society, particularly the youth, President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), His Eminence, Archbishop Daniel C. Okoh has noted that corruption impedes development and stifles the potential of the younger generation, even as he commended the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in combating corruption.
Archbishop Okoh made the commendation in his goodwill message at the occasion organized by EFCC in Abuja, which focused on Youth, Religion, and the Fight against Corruption.
The Archbishop acknowledged that the youth are not the creators of corruption but are influenced by corrupt practices, particularly cybercrime.
Religion, he stressed, plays a vital role in shaping moral values, even as he highlighted the responsibility of religious leaders in imparting values such as honesty, integrity, and accountability.
The CAN president expressed the need for moral education in empowering the youth with timeless values and fostering ethical decision-making.
He equally praised the launch of the ‘Interfaith Preaching Manual against Corruption’ as a collective commitment of religious leaders.
The manual consisting of 13 themes on Economic and Financial Crimes, provides scripturally based teachings to challenge learners positively, he explained.
Archbishop Okoh thanked the EFCC, staff, and partners for their contribution to Nigeria’s growth. He also commended the Inter-Religious Anti-Corruption Advisory Committee for its commitment and dexterity in developing the manuals.
He the called for active participation, especially from the youth, in the fight against corruption, emphasizing the collective effort needed for a Nigeria where honesty, accountability, and justice prevail.
He then called on the government to strengthen the justice system, emphasizing the importance of indicting and disciplining acts of corruption.
