Bandits carried out a daring attack in Pambara Extension, Bwari Area Council of Abuja, abducting Aondo Ver, a director in the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Federal Capital Territory. The incident occurred around 12:30 am on Thursday, approximately 200 meters from a military base in the area. The attackers fired indiscriminately, causing panic, before escaping through the nearby bushes with the kidnapped director.
Residents confirmed the abduction and noted that the targeted area included military personnel, both serving and retired, as well as civilians. The military base, popularly known as ‘camp,’ is situated about 200 meters from the location where Aondo Ver was abducted in Pambara Extension.
A source reported, “The attack happened very close to a ‘camp,’ the military base at the entrance of Bwari, very close to Pambara Extension. The part of Pambara Extension where Mr. Ver was kidnapped is just about 200 meters away from the military base. But the kidnappers escaped through the bushes with the victim.”
Despite the proximity to the military base and the presence of serving and retired military personnel in the area, the audacity of the bandits has raised concerns about the security situation. The Federal Capital Territory has been grappling with an alarming surge in insecurity, causing anxiety among residents and authorities.
As of the time of this report, attempts to reach the spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages to his line went unanswered. Similarly, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, could not be reached for comments. The incident underscores the urgent need for concerted efforts to address security challenges in the nation’s capital.
