Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, issued a call on Thursday to the Federal Government and relevant security agencies, urging them to swiftly arrest and prosecute the perpetrators behind the killing of two traditional rulers in Ekiti State. The Elesun of Ekiti, Oba Babatunde Ogunsakin, and Oba Olatunde Olusola of Imojo fell victim to gunmen who ambushed and fatally attacked them on the highway between Ipapo and Oke Ake on Monday. Fortunately, the Alara of Ara Ekiti, Oba Adebaye Fatoba, narrowly escaped the incident.
In a statement conveyed by his counsel, Pelumi Olanjengbesi, in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, Adeyemo expressed the imperative need for the prompt apprehension of the culprits responsible for the heinous crime. He emphasized that those behind the killing of the two monarchs must face the full consequences of the law.
Adeyemo extended his concerns to the recent abduction of pupils from the Apostolic Faith Group of Schools in Emure Ekiti, urging security agencies to spare no effort in ensuring their safe rescue. He conveyed his sympathy to the affected families, stressing that such tragic incidents not only represent a significant loss for the Yoruba people but also cast a grim shadow on their identity as a peace-loving community.
Condemning the barbaric murders, Adeyemo called on both the state and federal governments to take decisive action in bringing the perpetrators to justice. He urged the immediate apprehension of the murderers and a thorough search of the surrounding woods and forests to eliminate any hiding perpetrators. Additionally, he appealed to all levels of government to allow the mobilization of local community vigilantes to complement existing security agencies in safeguarding the people.
Expressing the gravity of the situation, Adeyemo emphasized that the people deserve to live, and those involved in such acts, whether driven by politics, criminality, or sheer wickedness, should be aware that their actions will not go unpunished.
