Prior to the by-election for Chikun Constituency of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, a significant development has unfolded as four candidates opted to withdraw from the race in support of Jesse Tanko, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate. The candidates stepping down include Zipporah Bijeh of the Accord Party, David Sunday of the Zenith Labour Party, Idris Inuwa of the Social Democratic Party, and David Batholomew of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
Idris Inuwa, representing the group of candidates, addressed the media in Kaduna on Thursday to announce their collective decision. Inuwa cited the exemplary leadership qualities of Governor Uba Sani and the perceived ease of influencing projects and initiatives for the benefit of the constituency as key reasons behind their withdrawal.
Inuwa explained, “In view of the sterling leadership qualities so far expressed by Governor Uba Sani in Kaduna State, we are convinced that with the APC at the State House of Assembly, lobbying for projects and other things that will benefit our people will be easier to achieve.” The candidates expressed their belief that supporting the APC candidate would contribute to the realization of developmental projects and the delivery of democratic dividends to the residents of Chikun.
Highlighting their initial intent to represent Chikun and bring about positive change, Inuwa emphasized their confidence in Jesse Tanko as the candidate who can effectively deliver on these aspirations. The candidates acknowledged Governor Uba Sani’s unwavering commitment to state development and inclusivity, stressing the importance of having a House member aligned with the governor’s party for the seamless delivery of democracy’s benefits in the constituency.
The move signifies a strategic political alliance with the aim of consolidating efforts for the success of the APC candidate in the upcoming election, scheduled for Saturday.
