The Delta State House of Assembly candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Burutu State Constituency 1, Alapala Anthony Ebitonmo, has been declared the winner of the rerun election held on Saturday, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asupa Forteta.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Alapala the winner of the poll after the rerun election took place in Ayakoromor Unit 8, Oboro Unit 9, Enekorogha Unit 26, and Edegbene Unit 27. Alapala secured victory in all units, scoring more than 50 percent of the votes cast.
According to the INEC scorecard, out of a total of 15,381 votes cast, 14,809 were declared valid. Alapala received 7,728 votes, while Asupa Forteta garnered 6,616 votes, with 578 votes voided.
Alapala was presented with his certificate of return by the returning officer, Prof. Arnold.
Senator Joel-Thomas Onowakpo, who represents Delta South Senatorial District under the APC platform at the National Assembly, congratulated Hon. Anthony Ebitonmo Alapala for his victory in the rerun election. Onowakpo commended the electorate for their participation and emphasized the importance of democratic institutions and the power of the people in shaping the political landscape.
The senator also expressed gratitude to INEC for creating a level playing field for all contestants and to the nation’s security agencies for maintaining law and order during the election. He praised the resilience of the people of Burutu Constituency 1 and affirmed their commitment to democracy by defending their rights. Senator Onowakpo looks forward to working together with Alapala for the development of the constituency.
