Former Yobe State Governor, Bukar Abba Ibrahim, passed away at the age of 73 on Sunday, succumbing to a prolonged illness in Saudi Arabia, according to an anonymous source. Ibrahim served as the governor of Yobe State from May 1999 to May 2007.
During his first term, in August 1993, Ibrahim divided the state’s four emirates into 13, a move later reversed by the military regime of Sani Abacha. Upon his return to office in his second term after the restoration of democracy, he reintroduced the new emirates on January 6, 2000, including Ngazargamu, Gujba, Nguru, Tikau, Pataskum, Yusufari, Gudi, Fune, and Jajere.
In 2007, Bukar Abba Ibrahim was elected to the Senate for the Yobe East constituency. He successfully ran for re-election on April 9, 2011, representing Yobe East on the ANPP platform.
Confirming his demise, another source close to the family shared the news on Facebook, expressing condolences and invoking prayers for the late senator.
Yobe State Governor, Mai Buni, expressed shock and sorrow at the passing of the former statesman. The governor announced Ibrahim’s death, stating that he passed away in Makkah while undergoing treatment for a prolonged illness. Buni directed the state government to oversee all aspects of the funeral arrangements, ensuring a state burial and honoring the late governor.
Governor Buni offered prayers, saying, “May Allah forgive his shortcomings and admit him into Aljannatu Firdaus.” He called on the people and friends of Yobe State to join in prayers for the repose of Bukar Abba Ibrahim’s soul.
