The House of Representatives in Nigeria is set to hold the second edition of its sectoral debates/dialogue on February 6, 2024. This edition will focus on the financial sector and involve key stakeholders such as the Minister of Finance, Minister of Budget and Planning, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, and the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue, among others.
The sectoral debates/dialogue is part of the House’s periodic policy brief series and aims to engage key players in various sectors to promote transparency, accountability, and good governance. The initiative is in line with the House Legislative Agenda, specifically focusing on strengthening good governance, legislative oversight, and promoting legislative-executive relationships.
The first edition of the sectoral debate series took place in November 2023, focusing on security agencies. The House Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, emphasized the importance of assessing the nation’s readiness to mobilize necessary financial resources for implementing the budget, given the economic challenges facing the country. The dialogue provides an opportunity for members of the House to contribute and enrich the quality of discussions on key issues affecting the financial sector and overall economic governance in Nigeria.
