Armoured vehicle firms have observed a surge in sales, particularly of customised vehicles for personal and family security. The Sales Manager of Inkas Armoured Vehicle Manufacturing Nigeria mentioned that the market for armoured vehicles is experiencing a boom, and dealers are making brisk business. Other representatives from armoured vehicle companies also confirmed increased demand, attributing it to the deteriorating security situation in the country.
The high demand for armoured vehicles has been associated with the challenges posed by kidnappings and the need for individuals to enhance their personal security. However, the dealers expressed concerns about high customs duties and fluctuating foreign exchange rates affecting their business.
In response to the security challenges, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has pledged to support security agencies in addressing kidnappings by enhancing their technological capabilities. The NCC Vice Chairman, Aminu Maida, stated that the commission would collaborate with security agencies to tackle the challenges and enforce sanctions against telecommunication firms and individuals involved in illegal SIM card registration.
