The Elepe of Ohi-Ogidi in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Chief Ojo Olayinka, was reportedly murdered by unidentified gunmen. The Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, condemned the killing in a statement and announced that the state government had ordered security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators.
The government expressed its determination to secure the lives and property of Kogi residents, emphasizing that the act was barbaric. Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo directed security chiefs and the state security adviser to ensure the perpetrators faced the full wrath of the law.
Fanwo urged the people of Ogidi and Ijumu Local Government Area to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands. He assured them that the state’s security apparatus was strong enough to defend and secure lives, urging citizens to provide useful intelligence to security agencies.
The government expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, the Ogidi community, the people of Ijumu Local Government Area, and the traditional institution. Fanwo emphasized the administration’s commitment to the security of lives and property, pledging to make life unbearable for criminals in the state.
This incident comes after the reported killing of a 75-year-old elder sister of the Attah Igala, Mathew Opaluwa, in Kogi State on January 6, 2024. Suspected arsonists set ablaze the woman, Meimunat Sani, along with her granddaughter, Hajarat, in their residence in Idah Local Government Area.
