Troops from the 93 Battalion under the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Taraba apprehended a suspected female kidnapper, Janet Igohia, 31, as she attempted to collect a ransom for an abducted victim. According to a statement by Lieutenant Oni Olubodunde, the Acting Assistant Director, 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, Igohia was arrested after picking up N1.5 million.
The troops received information on January 25, 2024, about the activities of extremist groups and insurgents planning to move to a drop zone where relatives of abducted victims were directed to drop ransom money. Acting on this information, troops deployed at Chanchanji laid in wait, leading to the arrest of Janet Igohia at about 10:00 am while collecting the ransom payment.
Janet Igohia disclosed that she is currently married to Voryor Gata, a notorious criminal and leader of a violent extremist group in southern Taraba. She revealed her previous marriages to high-profile criminals, including the late Terkibi Gemaga AKA Mopol, a notorious kidnapper killed by troops five years ago, and the late Gana Terwase, another notorious criminal killed during Joint Special Force Operation three years ago.
Additionally, the statement highlighted the arrest of two suspected gunrunners, Alhaji Adamu Damisa, 40, and Usman Isah, 44, in Mararaba Baissa community of Donga Local Government Area. The suspects were allegedly involved in extra-judicial killings and cattle rustling. The troops confiscated the sum of 664,000 Naira, proceeds from their illegal activities, along with two Techno mobile phones.
Lieutenant Oni Olubodunde emphasized the Brigade’s commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens by dismantling criminal networks operating in Taraba State. He urged the public to continue supporting the military and other security agencies by providing credible and timely information on suspicious movements or activities of criminals within the state.
