In a successful operation, Nigerian Army troops rescued 18 female kidnapping victims from their captors, handing them over to the Katsina State Government. The rescue followed the recent abduction of 55 wedding guests escorting a bride in Damari town, Sabuwa Local Government Area of the state by suspected bandits.
Brig.-Gen. Oluremi Fadairo, the Brigade Commander of the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Katsina, revealed that the soldiers conducted a rescue operation in the Yan-Tumaki and Dan-Ali forests, engaging the terrorists in a gun battle to successfully retrieve the victims. The rescued individuals were subsequently handed over to Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu, the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs.
Fadairo emphasized the Nigerian Army’s commitment to working towards the restoration of permanent peace in the state, urging personnel to sustain such rescue operations for the liberation of other kidnapped victims.
In response, Mu’azu reaffirmed the government’s dedication to achieving lasting peace in the state, commending Governor Dikko Radda’s substantial investments in the security sector. He praised the military and other security agencies for their courageous efforts and encouraged them to maintain their momentum.
Mu’azu issued a stern warning to bandits, kidnappers, and criminals to repent immediately or face severe consequences. He assured that the government was actively working to rescue women kidnapped on their way to a wedding ceremony in Sabuwa Local Government.
Furthermore, the commissioner advised citizens, particularly those in front-line local governments, to avoid night travel for their safety. He urged the people of the state to assist by providing valuable information about criminals and their hideouts, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in maintaining security.
