In the aftermath of his success in Saturday’s by-election in Kaduna State, Yusuf Liman, the former Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly who was previously sacked, has been re-elected as the Speaker of the state assembly. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kaduna presented Certificates of Return to Liman and other winners of the re-run polls and by-election held on Saturday.
Apart from Liman, other lawmakers who received Certificates of Return included Haruna Barnabas (APC, Chawai State Constituency), Jesse Tanko (APC, Chikun State Constituency), and Nura Likoro (PDP, Kudan State Constituency). Following the presentation, the former Speaker was nominated and unanimously elected as the new Speaker of the State House of Assembly during a plenary session.
Expressing gratitude to his colleagues for their trust and support, Liman pledged to collaborate with the executive arm of government for the growth and development of democracy and the state. In his address, he emphasized the need for lawmakers to uphold the interests and aspirations of the people of Kaduna and reaffirmed their dedication to democracy, justice, and progress.
Yusuf Liman, who represents the Makera constituency, had his earlier election as the speaker nullified by the appeal court in Abuja in November 2023. The court’s decision led to a mandated rerun in five polling units within the Makera constituency, culminating in his successful re-election.
