The Gombe State Police Command apprehended 22 suspects, including 32-year-old David Ochuko and 27-year-old Jibril Sani, on charges of impersonation, conspiracy, and possession of suspected Indian hemp. The suspects were paraded at the police command on Tuesday.
Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mahid Abubakar, disclosed that Ochuko, who falsely claimed to be an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), was arrested with six blocks of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. Ochuko was found in possession of an ASP identity card and an army operational cap during his arrest along Dasa village of Dadin-kowa.
Among the paraded suspects were Yahaya Abdulkadir, Shuaibu Ahmadu, Musa Hussaini, Usman Haruna, Adamu Munkaila, Abdulmalik Mohammed, Dangunde Abba, Abdulsalam Shehu, Abdulmalik Garba, Ibrahim Yunusa, and Babangida Idris. They were arrested for criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.
Abubakar explained that Yahaya Garba reported a robbery incident involving his Bajaj motorcycle, leading to the arrest of Abdulkadir and Ahmadu. The police recovered three stolen Bajaj motorcycles from the suspects’ residences.
Another case involved Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi, who reported a house intrusion where valuables were stolen. Mustapha Mato of DEBA ward reported a fatal altercation between the suspects and Samaila Yusuf, who succumbed to injuries inflicted during the fight. The investigation revealed that Yusuf, the victim, was an alleged drug dealer, and a confrontation with the suspects, who were his customers, led to the fatal altercation.
Furthermore, Monday Okoye reported the theft of his DAF trailer truck, which was later recovered along Biu road. The police arrested Ibrahim Yunusa and Babangida Idris in connection with the theft.
The police spokesperson stated that three Bajaj motorcycles and a DAF trailer truck were recovered, and investigations were ongoing. The suspects would be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.
