A Nigerian soldier named Adie Paul has voiced his disagreement with President Bola Tinubu’s decision to reward Super Eagles players with houses, plots of land, and national honours for their second-place finish in the recently concluded African Cup of Nations. Paul, who sustained a bullet injury while serving in the North East against Boko Haram, expressed his frustration on social media.
In response to a tweet by user drpenking, highlighting that even Ahmed Musa, who didn’t play in AFCON, received rewards, Paul shared a picture and stated, “Yet, as a soldier, I stayed in the North East fighting Boko Haram for four years plus, I was shot, and I am still carrying the bullet in me till date, not even a medal from the Army/Nigeria government.”
President Tinubu awarded the national honour of Member of the Order of the Niger to every member of the Super Eagles team that secured the Silver medal at AFCON on Tuesday.
