The Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, and his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, are set to be sworn in for a second term today at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa, the state capital. The re-election of Governor Diri and Deputy Governor Ewhrudjakpo under the Peoples Democratic Party was confirmed after the November 11 governorship poll, and they received their certificates of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission on November 17.
Governor Diri secured victory with a total of 175,196 votes, defeating his main rival, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress. The inauguration ceremony is expected to draw dignitaries, groups, and residents who have gathered at the venue to witness the commencement of the second term.
Stringent security measures are in place for the event, with roads leading to the sports complex being cordoned off by various security operatives, including soldiers, policemen, members of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Federal Road Safety Corps. This has led to residents having to trek long distances around the area due to the restrictions in place for the swearing-in ceremony.
