Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the legal representative of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Independent People of Biafra, has taken Mr. Vincent Dike, the President-General of Oraifite Improvement Union, to the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja, seeking N50 billion in damages for defamation.
In the filed suit numbered CV/1224/24, Ejiofor contends that Dike made false and highly injurious remarks about him during a press conference held on February 4, 2024, addressing members of the Oraifite community. The comments allegedly made by Dike were characterized as defamatory and damaging to Ejiofor’s personal and professional reputation.
Ejiofor claims to have served a notice for immediate retraction of the offending publications to Dike via his known telephone/WhatsApp number. Despite the acknowledgment of receipt, Dike has purportedly failed to retract the statements, prompting Ejiofor to take legal action.
The reliefs sought by Ejiofor include a court directive for Vincent Dike to publish a full retraction in at least three national dailies with nationwide and global circulation. Additionally, Ejiofor seeks an order mandating Dike to issue an express, unambiguous, and unqualified apology in the same newspapers. The legal action also demands that Dike provides a written undertaking not to publish any further defamatory statements about Ejiofor.
Among the other reliefs sought are compensatory payment of ₦50,000,000,000 as general damages for the harm caused by the defamatory publications and a further payment of ₦100,000,000 as the cost of the suit.
The suit was officially filed by Chinwe Umeche, Esq., the Head of Chambers/Managing Partner in the chambers of I.C. Ejiofor – Ugochinyere Chambers. As of now, the suit is awaiting listing for a hearing.
