In the early hours of Sunday, a group of bandits invaded Gindin Duste Makyali in the Kufana District, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, resulting in the tragic death of at least 12 individuals during the assault. The incident, occurring around 5 am, witnessed the ruthless destruction of no fewer than 17 houses, as the marauders, in substantial numbers, stormed the town, firing shots indiscriminately.
The attack persisted for several hours without any visible presence of security operatives, adding to the distress in the community. This incident followed closely on the heels of another assault in Igabi and Kauru, two local government areas in the state, on the preceding Friday night.
During those earlier attacks, bandits targeted the communities of Gwada and Kassam in Igabi, as well as Kauru Local Government Areas, resulting in the death of nine individuals and injuring seven others. Furthermore, numerous people, including a retired director of the Central Bank of Nigeria and his wife, were abducted.
The breakdown of casualties from these incidents revealed that six people lost their lives, five were abducted, and two sustained injuries in Kauru LGA. In Igabi LGA, three individuals were killed, seven were injured, and 30 others were kidnapped. Notably, Igabi is situated in the northern part of the state, while Kauru is located in the Southern Kaduna axis.
Though there has been no official confirmation from the police, a reliable source informed our correspondent that the attack took place near a security post. The source reported that 12 residents perished in the flames within their homes, while nine others sustained injuries.
Expressing his dismay, Governor Uba Sani condemned the renewed attack. The governor, represented by the Overseeing Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, expressed shock upon receiving the news. He promptly directed the State Emergency Agency to provide urgent assistance to the affected communities in Kajuru and Igabi.
Governor Sani strongly denounced the attacks and offered prayers for the souls of the deceased. He reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing the prevailing security challenges in the state, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to tackle the situation.
