President Bola Tinubu has ordered the prompt settlement of a lingering N342 million electricity bill owed to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) by the State House. This directive comes in the wake of a thorough reconciliation of accounts between the State House Management and AEDC.
Contrary to the initial claim by AEDC, which stated a debt of N923 million in a paid advertorial in newspapers, the Presidency clarified in a statement signed by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, that the actual outstanding bill stands at N342.35 million. The statement, titled ‘President Tinubu directs payment of State House electricity bill,’ was released on Tuesday.
Assuring AEDC, the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, affirmed that the debt would be settled before the week’s end. Additionally, he urged defaulting Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to promptly clear their outstanding electricity bills.
