The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Kaduna State Zonal Command, has apprehended Nuhu Haruna for an alleged fraudulent transaction amounting to N1 billion. The arrest was made following a petition lodged in December 2023 by an unnamed individual who engaged Haruna in a foreign exchange transaction. The petitioner claimed to have paid N1,020,000.00 into Haruna’s account for the dollar equivalent, but later discovered that the evidence of payments provided by the suspect was false.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Haruna, who purported to be an airline captain, diverted the funds for personal use, acquiring properties and vehicles intended for his alleged airline company, Air Unity Aviation Services. The assets traced to the suspect include a landed property purchased at N155,000, another at N350,000, three 18-seater Toyota Hiace buses bearing the Air Unity Aviation Services logo, and four exotic cars. The EFCC announced that Haruna would face charges in court after further investigations.
Meanwhile, the former governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfattah Ahmed, has spent a second night in the custody of the EFCC, undergoing questioning regarding an alleged N10 billion misappropriation. Ahmed reported to the Ilorin zonal office of the EFCC on Monday and has not been released as of Tuesday.
In a separate operation, the EFCC arrested six individuals in Lagos State over their alleged involvement in currency racketeering and the sale of new naira notes for commercial purposes. The arrests were made in connection with illicit activities related to the circulation of new currency notes, as stated by the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, in a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday.
